West Ham United is to take legal action against Tottenham Hotspur and The Sunday Times following allegations that an Olympic Park Legacy Company employee had been taking paid consultancy work for West Ham Football Club during its bid for the Olympic stadium.

The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) board voted 14-0 in February to back the Hammers as the first choice club to move into the stadium after that Games – however the OPLC denies that the employee had any involvement in the decision.

The OPLC director, named by West Ham as Dionne Knight, was suspended when it emerged she worked for West Ham during their bid to use the stadium in London after the 2012 Games.

According to media reports Knight had declared ‘a personal relationship’ with a West Ham employee when she started at the OPLC, but only told the company of her consultancy work on Thursday last week.

The OPLC said she was being suspended while any possible conflict of interest was investigated.

West Ham said they had already carried out an investigation into Dionne Kinght’s role with the club.

A spokesman added: ‘West Ham United can confirm the club are taking legal action in relation to allegations made in today’s Sunday Times’.

‘We are certain of the robustness of our successful bid for the Olympic Stadium’.
