Premier League side West Ham United has joined forces with non-profit organisation Ambition, Aspire, Achieve (AAA), which provides activities and experiences for disadvantaged, vulnerable and at risk young people across east London.
AAA becomes the London club’s sixth official charity partner, and will work with West Ham on a series of initiatives.
The partnership launched ahead of West Ham’s 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
Former West Ham chairman Terrence Brown is one of the charity’s patrons, and played a supporting role in opening The Terence Brown Arc In The Park in Canning Town.
Kevin Jenkins, AAA’s founder, said: “Many children in our communities need help realising their ambitions. There is so much they can aspire to and what they can achieve is incredible.
“We are honoured to be West Ham United’s sixth official charity partner, and are so grateful to the club for allowing us to stage a collection for our vital work at tonight’s game. There is already a huge association with the Irons.”
Meanwhile, the club has suspended director of player recruitment Tony Henry over claims he said the club would not sign any more African players. The Daily Mail reported that Henry said African players “cause mayhem” when they are not in the team.
In a statement, West Ham said they will not tolerate any type of discrimination and have “therefore, acted swiftly due to the serious nature of these claims”.
Henry has been suspended pending “a full and thorough investigation”.
