Home appliance brand Whirlpool has extended its multi-million pound sponsorship
of the WTA Tour for another three years meaning its association with women’s
tennis will continue through to 2009.

The sponsorship deal sees Whirlpool continue to sit underneath the
Tour’s title sponsor Sony Ericsson as a premier partner. It is not known how
much the new contract is worth.

As well as the on-court signage and exposure
opportunities afforded to it, Whirlpool will also continue to sponsor the
broadcast coverage of the Tour on Eurosport as part of the renewal
deal.

Whirlpool’s principal marketing aim from the association is to raise
consumer awareness of its 6th sense technology although it also leverages the
sponsorship to raise money for the Habitat for Humanity charity.

So far,
Whirlpool and the WTA Tour have raised €163,000 through the joint initiative
‘Aces for Homes’, money from which goes directly into the charity. The programme
sees €10 donated to the cause for every ace scored on the Tour.
