White Stuff has marked the 50th anniversary of England’s first official women’s international football match with a national campaign featuring six players from the 1972 squad.
The UK-focused campaign has included billboard advertising across central London and a 60-second film released on YouTube and the brand’s social media channels. It has highlighted the players who represented England against Scotland at Ravenscraig Stadium on 18 November 1972.
Featured in the campaign are Julia Brunton, Sue Wyhatt, Jeannie Allott, Lynda Hale, Maggie Pearce and Pat Davies, who have shared their memories of the match and reflected on the early days of women’s football in England. Each has appeared wearing items from White Stuff’s summer collection.
The campaign has run across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and White Stuff’s website, and has been produced with photographer Serena Brown, director Ollie Craig, the in-house creative team, and agency Weirdo.
The campaign has coincided with a summer of renewed focus on the women’s game in the UK, including the Barclays Women’s Championship pre-season and preparation for UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Sue Wyhatt, Goalkeeper, 1972 England women’s football team, said, “We were all strong women. We didn’t take no for an answer. If anybody said “you can’t do that” we’d be out there proving them wrong.”

Julia Brunton, Forward, 1972 England women’s football team, “We were just 15 girls that played for England 50 years ago. But then you do think, well, perhaps we did do something a bit special, you know?”
Julia Monro, Brand Director, White Stuff commented, “It’s a privilege for us to meet these inspiring women, to share their stories, and to give them a fraction of the recognition they deserve while women’s football is in the spotlight this summer.”
