DW Stadium, the home of Super League champions Wigan Warriors and League One football club Wigan Athletic, will be renamed as The Brick Community Stadium.

The new naming rights partnership with the local homelessness charity will take effect from 13th May, and will run until the end of 2025.

Both Wigan teams will continue their search for a long-term naming rights partner for the c. 25,000-seat venue from 2026.

As per the agreement, The Brick will collaborate with the two teams, and will seek new ways to further benefit the local community through the partnership.

The name change comes after DW Sports, the gym franchise founded by former Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan, entered administration in 2020.

The clubs said in a joint release announcing the deal, ‘Both Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic are grateful to the contribution of Dave Whelan to both clubs since he became involved with Wigan Athletic in 1995 and Wigan Warriors in 1997.’

Ben Goodburn, Chairman of Wigan Athletic, said, “Day-to-day, The Brick has been delivering inspirational work and making a real difference to the lives of people in Wigan for over a century.

“The stadium is a spiritual home for so many of our loyal fans across both clubs, many of whom will have been, in some way, impacted by the positive work of The Brick.

“As an ownership group, we are hugely passionate about serving and supporting our local community as we look to help make a positive impact on the lives of our town’s residents.”
