Former England cricketer and Ashes hero Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has become a brand ambassador for British bookmaker William Hill, ahead of the opening day of the Investec Ashes Series.
The 35-year-old, who briefly took up professional boxing after retiring for cricket (pictured), will provide William Hill customers with tips via the firm’s podcast service and promote the bookmaker through a range of in-store activities.
Flintoff joins former footballer Robbie Savage and 2010 Grand National winner AP McCoy as a William Hill ambassador.
Kristof Fahy, chief marketing officer at William Hill, said: ‘I consider Freddie’s signing a huge coup. We are delighted he has joined us as we gear up for two Ashes series in six months. Make no mistake, he is an English icon who transcends the sport of cricket. When he talks, people listen – he is opinionated, deeply passionate about the game and instantly recognisable.’
Flintoff added: ‘This is a great time to join William Hill – it is a double Ashes year and it could be one of the best years in English cricket history. I am chuffed to bits that I’ll be working with such an iconic British sporting brand – the people have been so welcoming and are clearly just as sports-daft as I am, so bring it on!”
The first Ashes Test between England and Australia, at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge, begins on Wednesday.’
