The Williams Formula One team is seeking a new title sponsor after confirming the agreement with US telecommunications giant AT&T has expired.

A team spokeswoman said on Wednesday: ‘We have reached the conclusion of our partnership, the contract expired on 31 December by mutual agreement.’

The AT&T branding has also been removed from the team web site and list of partners.

According to media reports, the AT&T deal had been worth around £4.5m a season, a comparatively small sum compared to title sponsorships at many other teams.

The British-based team endured its worst season in Formula One last year, taking just five points from 19 races and finishing ninth in the constructors’ championship.

News agency Reuters reported that Williams are in “advanced negotiations” with another telecommunications company over the title sponsorship.

Williams has also yet to decide on its second driver for the 2012 season starting with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 18th March.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello is hoping to be kept on for his 20th season in F1 but faces strong competition from, amongst others, Germany’s Adrian Sutil.
