The organisers of Wimbledon have announced that total prize money for this
year’s tournament will increase by nearly 9% with the record pot to be shared
equally between male and female players for the first time.

The overall fund for the 2007 tournament will be £11,282,710 – 8.7% up on
last year’s figure – with the champions each winning £700,000.

Subject to final testing, Hawk-eye technology will be used on Centre Court
and Court One at this year’s championships for the first time, to be held
between 25th June and 8th July, with existing Cyclops equipment used on other
courts.

Because of long-term rebuilding caused by the installation of a retractable
roof on Centre Court, this year there will be no roof whatsoever on the court
and all seats will be exposed to the elements.

There are also plans to build a new Court Two in time for the 2009
Championships.
