Wieden & Kennedy has won the pitch to handle the £100m global advertising
account for Visa’s sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup that was confirmed earlier
this week.
The nine-month pitch process, which was held up significantly by MasterCard’s
legal proceedings against FIFA over the sponsorship deal, has finally been
resolved with Wieden & Kennedy beating a host of other agencies to pick up
the account.
The decision was part of a wider review of all of the credit card’s roster
advertising agencies which currently consist of Rainey Kelly Campbell
Roalfe/Y&R, TBWA\Chiat\Day, 180 Amsterdam and Saatchi & Saatchi London.
Wieden & Kennedy will now create global campaigns for ten FIFA World Cup
events, including first and foremost the 2010 tournament in South Africa and the
Women’s World Cup, to be held in China in 2008.
Visa’s sponsorship deal with FIFA runs until the end of the 2014 World
Cup.
