Premier League football club Wolverhampton Wanderers has released a new video aiming to raise awareness of suicide prevention and mental health issues, which has been widely shared and praised on social media.
In the video, local grime and rap artist Reepa stands blindfolded in a Wanderers scarf with a sign that reads, ‘Suicide and poor mental health are more common than we admit. Suicide is the biggest killer of men and women under 25, and of men under 50. If you need it, give me a hug or stop for a chat’, before chatting to several fans, including some who were not featured in the video.
Following the video’s release, Reepa said, “Overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the video I appreciate all of you reaching out and once again to everyone that engaged and anyone else effected watching big up yourselves, keep pushing and know you are blessed.”
The viral video, which has already amassed more than eight million views on X, has been released as part of the Premier League’s Inside Matters campaign, which runs from 6th to 15th May and Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 which takes place from 13th to 19th May.
Last year, a video released by EFL Championship club Norwich City on Mental Health Awareness Day 2023 was watched over 142m times and the club’s campaign, in which it featured, went on to win Campaign of the Year at the Sport Industry Awards 2024.
