BBC Sport has acquired exclusive broadcast rights to the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, which will take place in England from 22nd August to 27th September next year.

Coverage of the tournament will be available across the UK public service broadcaster’s linear channels, with all matches set to air on the iPlayer OTT platform, as well as the BBC Sport website and app.

BBC has also picked up live audio commentary, which will be available on BBC Radio 5 Live, as well as 5 Sports Extra.

The England Red Roses will be bidding to defend their title at next year’s World Cup.

Throughout the competition, content will be supplied across BBC Scotland, BBC Wales and BBC Northern Ireland.

“Next summer is set to be a huge moment for women’s sport and following coverage of [Women’s World Cup] and the Women’s Six Nations championship on the BBC we’re proud to bring audiences exclusive coverage of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 hosted in England,” said Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport.

“Big sporting moments have a unique ability to unify bringing people together and never more so when international competitions play out on home soil.”

World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin added, “The BBC is a massive champion of women’s rugby and women’s sport more broadly and with their multi-platform, diverse programming approach and regional reach, we look forward to making history together – the biggest, most accessible and record-breaking celebration of women’s rugby ever.”

Next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup will be staged across eight venues across England, namely the American Express Stadium, Ashton Gate, Sandy Park, Twickenham, Salford Community Stadium, Franklin’s Gardens, the Stadium of Light, and the York Community Stadium.

Twickenham will host the final under its new name as the Allianz Stadium, following the RFU’s recently announced naming rights deal with the German financial services company, which is reportedly worth £10m annually.
