The sale of former Premiership rugby club Worcester Warriors has been officially completed.

The Atlas Group, led by former Warriors chief executive Jim O’Toole, had been given until 2nd May by administrators Begbies Traynor to get the deal over the line after agreeing to buy the club in February.

The deadline passed without news, but the sale has now been officially confirmed. O’Toole, and his business partner James Sandford have purchased the rugby union club and its assets, which includes the Sixways Stadium.

It is still unknown when the club will play again, and in which division. Atlas recently withdrew its application to play in next season’s Championship and attempted a merger with fellow Worcestershire club side Stourbridge, to avoid having to restart too far down English rugby’s pyramid.

An Atlas statement read, ‘Atlas WWRFC are delighted to confirm they have completed on the transaction with the administrators and now look forward to delivering their vision for rugby, the business and the wider community at Sixways.

‘Atlas thank Begbies Traynor and their advisors for their collaborative approach, alongside the Warriors fans and wider rugby community for their patience and support … special thanks and recognition must also go to the staff at Sixways who have kept the venue management operation going successfully.’

The Rugby Football Union has since confirmed that Wasps – which also went into administration and lost its place in the Premiership – has applied to use Sixways for home games in the Championship next season.
