Worcester Warriors have formally submitted their application to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to join the newly established Tier 2 League.

The news represents a significant step in the Warriors’ continued efforts to re-establish themselves in competitive rugby at their home ground, Sixways.

Following financial turmoil in 2022 that led to administration, mounting debts, and eventual suspension from all competitions, the Warriors faced a prolonged period of uncertainty.

This challenging period resulted in the club’s relegation from the Premiership and left players, staff, and fans questioning the club’s future.

The new Tier 2 League, introduced by the RFU in 2024, provides clubs like Worcester Warriors with an opportunity to rebuild competitively and financially. By joining this league, the Warriors aim to stabilise their foundation, with a long-term vision to ensure sustainable operations and a pathway for local and regional rugby talent to thrive.

Warriors have stated that they ‘look forward to working closely with the RFU throughout the application process and will continue to keep fans and supporters informed on their progress.’

The club states that ‘although considerable steps remain, the club is optimistic about this new chapter and eager to take on the next challenge.’
