Construction work has begun on the Olympic Velodrome for London 2012 with the aim to create the fastest cycling track in the world.

Beijing Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy helped design the 6,000 seater venue in east London along with the main designers, Hopkins Architects.

The site is expected to cost £105m by the time construction is finished after the cost spiralled from initial budget estimations.

Following the 2012 Olympics, it is proposed that the Velodrome is to be used as a community and elite sporting venue.
