World Snooker has launched an official YouTube page designed to offer fans around the world a range of quality content in one location, in time for the Betfair World Championship, which started this weekend.
The page features an array of exclusive content including player interviews, behind the scenes insight, Q&As with players, commentators and officials, highlights, archive footage, features – including a challenge for players to clear the colours in the fastest time – as well as the latest news.
A spokesman for World Snooker said: ‘The average person spends 15 minutes a day on YouTube so we want at least some of that time to be spent watching snooker! YouTube has over 800 million visitors per month and four billion video views per day so we see this as a fantastic opportunity to develop the popularity of snooker worldwide and bring the sport to people who might not have seen it before.’
‘Our official page will include some fantastic content featuring the best players in the world. Videos will be posted every day during the Betfair World Championship so we’re urging fans to keep visiting the site and add to their enjoyment of the tournament.’
Meanwhile, Friday will also see World Snooker and WPBSA stage Ladies Day for the first time during the Betwair World Championship, with the aim of getting more women involved in the sport.
The day will also aim to raise money for World Snooker’s official charity Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. There will be a ‘purple’ theme – using the colour of Bluebell Wood’s logo – with well known snooker personalities such as Michaela Tabb to wear purple, and all fans are encouraged to do the same.
