World Snooker has struck an information sharing deal with online betting exchange Betfair as it looks to clamp down on rumours of match-fixing in the sport.
The governing body have entered into a memorandum of understanding with Betfair that will allow both parties to exchange and share information in the case of any suspicious activity.
An agreement with the Association of British Bookmakers has been in place since 2005 and World Snooker chairman Sir Rodney Walker is convinced the latest measure is a move towards securing the sport’s integrity.
He said: ‘Entering into such agreements and establishing relationships within the betting industry is an important, necessary step for World Snooker to take and these links facilitate our gathering of information to assist in any enquiries.
‘I am pleased to have been able to negotiate this additional agreement with Betfair, which will reinforce snooker’s continued commitment to preserve the integrity and transparency of our sport.’
The move comes just a matter of days after Walker stated that suspicions of corruption in snooker was scaring off sponsors with both 888.com and Saga Insurance ending their associations with the sport early.
