The World Rally Championship has struck a new, extended three-year TV rights deal with specialist TV channel Motors TV – a move that appears to have ended the series’ relationship with pan-European broadcaster Eurosport.

The new agreement begins next season and will include hour-long broadcasts on the evening of every leg of every round of the WRC.

In addition to the reports, Motors TV will also commit programming to previews and other feature material in the sport including focusing on the competition of each WRC round and making extensive use of the on-board footage.

Simon Long, CEO of rights holders International Sportsworld Communications, stated: ‘There’s no way we can put all of the on-board footage into our international programme – a programme with broader appeal for those fans who want a 365-degree perspective on the sport – but Motors will certainly be making use of all the on-boards.

‘Beyond the reports, there will also be extensive news coverage of the sport as well. This will be a multi-dimensional experience of the WRC, showcasing to other broadcasters, what is possible with the WRC. Motors will be lifting the lid on what we consider to be the best adrenalin-fuelled adventure sport in the world.’

It is understood that the new extended Motors TV deal means that ISC will not extend its agreement with Eurosport into next season.
