Wrexham AFC have confirmed the Allyn family as new minority investors in the League One club.

The New York-based family, who previously owned medical device company Welch Allyn, will invest through Red Dragon Ventures LLC, a new joint venture forged between the Allyn family, and Wrexham’s existing owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Since the Hollywood actors first bought Wrexham back in 2020 in a £2m takeover, the Welsh club has realised significant successes both on and off the pitch, including back-to-back promotions over the last two seasons.

Wrexham owners McElhenney (left), and Reynolds (right) have led the club to consecutive promotions.

Currently placed third in League One, the Red Dragons are chasing a third successive promotion to the EFL Championship.

Meanwhile, the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series has helped expand the club’s international fan-base, particularly in the US.

The new funding is intended to bolster the club’s on-field ambitions, as well as benefitting the Wrexham community.

In a joint statement, Wrexham AFC Co-chairmen Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds said, “Wrexham has earned the world’s attention and we are focused on bringing on board world-class partners to help with the next phase of our growth.

“We have been fortunate to get to know the Allyn family and we are blown away by their intelligence, kindness and commitment. They are exactly the type of partners we will need for this amazing endeavour.”

Eric Allyn, Manager and Chief Investment Officer of the Allyn’s Family Office, added, “For more than a century, our family has focused on building great companies, while also uplifting wonderful communities.

“Our decades-long efforts in the Syracuse region are similar to what Rob and Ryan have started in Wrexham.

“We view Red Dragon Ventures as a vehicle to invest in a world-class football club, and, importantly, in the welcoming community of Wrexham.”

Doubling down on their commitment to the town, Reynolds and McElhenney have also become co-owners of local brewery Wrexham Lager.
