The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has signed a four-year deal with digital content specialists, Perform, to exploit the WTA’s Premier tournament media rights for 2013 to 2016.
According to media reports, the partnership is anticipated to double the overall exposure for WTA tennis through content production, the development of new platforms, and an enhanced focus on digital distribution.
The deal will cover the 22 Premier WTA events, including the season-ending finale, the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships, currently held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Perform, which already provides the WTA with a range of web, live streaming and mobile services, has acquired media rights to WTA’s Premier tournaments and will manage the development and media optimisation of the events outside of North America.
Plans for the new partnership reportedly include doubling the current live match production levels and improving the availability of ancillary content packages across all media platforms with a weekly magazine programme, e-Player coverage, and hourly news output.
