Sport Industry Group has announced the global insurance and reinsurance company XL Catlin as an official category partner of the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016.
The partnership will see XL Catlin become the sponsor of the Participation Event of the Year Award, which recognises work from across the industry to create a UK-based standout participation event for all competitors, not just elite athletes.
The category shortlist last year included a duathlon celebrating its 10th anniversary; a London 2012 legacy event to inspire people to take up cycling; the largest mass participation triathlon event in the world; a baton relay to inspire the public to get behind Team England in the Commonwealth Games and more.
Commenting on the partnership, Paul Thomas, senior class underwriter, Sport & Leisure, XL Catlin, said: “As an insurer of local, regional and national participation events across the UK we are extremely pleased to be able to sponsor the Participation Event of the Year Award at this year’s BT Sport Industry Awards. Over recent years we have seen heightened participation particularly from an athlete and volunteer perspective which in turn has increased awareness of these events in the UK. We are delighted to support, recognise and celebrate the success of this vibrant industry.”
Nick Keller, chairman, Sport Industry Group added: “In any industry, none more so than sport, mitigating risk is integral to running a successful business. We are delighted to have such an established partner as XL Catlin on board for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016 and are confident they will be a strong ally for the sport industry.”
The industry’s flagship event will see over 1,750 major players from the world of sport, business and entertainment come together for an unforgettable night celebrating the standout work from across the sporting world.
The Official Shortlist for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2016 will be announced on 5th February. For more information and to book your table at the BT Sport Industry Awards on 28th April 2016 click here.
