Zepp has released a sensor for football, following launches of devices for baseball, golf, tennis and softball over the past three years.

The new system called Zepp Play Soccer uses a sensor worn in the calf sleeve by players and an app can track players’ stats to create real-time game reports using auto-clip tech.

The auto-clip tech in the system can capture ten second video highlights of stats to combine with video from the sidelines. The sensor also has an algorithm that converts data into player insights – made specifically for football. The sensor is to be inserted into a calf sleeve to secure shin guards or on the player’s dominant leg.

The sensor tracks total distance on the field, kicks, kick speed, sprints, max speed, active time, and goal conversion rate. Using the system, the team can use data to locate players on the field whilst saving other data such as opponents, location and starting line-up.

Power for the device is from a lithium ion rechargeable battery, which lasts 40 hours and syncs with Bluetooth.

Robin Han, Zepp, CEO said: “We are committed to helping athletes of all levels learn from and progress at the sports they love to play. In taking insights from our current products, Zepp Play Soccer creates the first play-specific sensors that will provide detailed data insights, paired with real-time performance highlights, at a level that has otherwise been unavailable to athletes and teams.”
