Square Mile Sport, the owner and operator of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, a 10-mile corporate relay event, has added two new financial districts to its annual race schedule, increasing the global series to 10 cities.
Sao Paulo and San Francisco complete an 18-month cycle that has seen the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay grow from four cities to 10, with three new cities added in the last year, with the most recent race taking place in Tokyo’s own Square Mile district, Marunouchi.
The race will now have a global reach beyond any other corporate running challenge with nine countries hosting the race which connects financial districts across the world and allows multi-national companies to challenge their closest business rivals and their offices in different locations. Expansion is set to continue with an additional city to be confirmed in 2018.
The commercial side of the event has also grown and the race has welcomed partnerships over the past year from World Wide Technology, Virgin Active, Maserati, Fitness First, The Four Seasons, Peroni and Technogym across our races, as well as headline sponsor for an 11th year, Bloomberg.
James Hassett, managing director, Square Mile Sport, commented: “The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay now has the greatest global reach across the biggest financial cities of any corporate team running series thanks to the appetite and enthusiasm of companies both large and small that take part, and we’re looking forward to adding San Francisco and Sao Paulo races later this year. Team-building, camaraderie and corporate wellbeing are the core tenets of the event that make it much more than just a running race, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience that is inclusive for all the office.
“The recent rise in popularity of mass participation events, personal challenges and the understanding of corporate well-being means that our events are now a firm fixture in the business and sporting calendars of all our host cities.
“Operationally to go from four to 10 cities in 18 months has been a huge challenge and we now set our sights on not only more creative and stimulating race routes but also bringing this influential community to life. Commercially, we have a great opportunity to grow and I looking forward to expanding the team with some exceptional talent that is up for a real global challenge.”
