The ECB has launched a new programme, Dynamos, to inspire children aged 8-11 to play cricket.

Designed for children graduating from the All Stars Cricket programme – the ECB’s scheme for 5-8-year olds – Dynamos will also welcome those who are new to the game, and the governing body says that up to 35,000 children will take part in the programme, either in May or during the school holidays alongside The Hundred.

Participants will learn cricketing skills across batting, bowling and fielding, while the ECB says there will also be a countdown cricket – a new format that mirrors The Hundred.

“2020 promises to be another unforgettable year for the game with the launch of The Hundred and Dynamos will give kids a chance to experience for themselves just how exciting cricket can be,” said Nick Pryde, Director of Participation and Growth, ECB.

“Dynamos Cricket is a key part of our plans to grow the game in England and Wales and we hope that thousands of children will fall in love with the game this summer.”

Meanwhile, participants in Dynamos will receive packs of Cricket Attax, a new trading card game developed by The Hundred in partnership with Topps, who will become an official licensee of the new competition.

Each player’s card will feature a series of attributes, ranked between one and 100 depending on their relative skill level, enabling fans to play against each other with cards they collect.

Sanjay Patel, Managing Director, The Hundred, said: “”We’re thrilled to be partnering with Topps to create a fun new product that will enable us to reach young people in an exciting and innovative way.

“We have an incredible group of players signed up to play in The Hundred this year and it’s great that they’ll be immortalised through trading cards.

“The players will provide the explosive entertainment on the field this summer and fans will be able to harness their heroes’ skills to win games against each other away from the grounds as well.”

The card packs will go on sale in spring, ahead of the inaugural competition which begins in July.
