The Premier League has announced a six-year extension to its existing partnership with Nike, lengthening its longstanding association with the US sportswear brand through to 2025.

The extension means Nike will continue to act as the official match ball provider for the Premier League, a commitment that began with the Nike Geo Merlin in 2000/01.

This season’s edition, the Premier League Merlin 2018/19 is the 15th iteration, with this season set to witness the 19,000th goal scored with a Nike football in the league.

The extended deal also covers the Premier League’s youth development and international events, with the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme another key benefactor from the partnership.

In addition, the extension will see Nike continue to assist schools and clubs across the country by providing playing kits to help encourage youngsters to get active.

Commenting on the extension, Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of the Premier League, said: “Nike is an excellent partner for the Premier League and, through its track-record of innovation, has done a great job providing high quality match-balls for the competition for nearly 20 years.

“Our work together extends beyond the match-ball and includes Nike’s excellent support for the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme that benefits schools across England and Wales.”

Martin Buckley, VP/GM Nike Global Football, added: “Nike’s two decades of partnership with the Premier League continues our commitment to innovation on the field and supporting players from the grassroots to elite levels of the game.”

News of Nike’s partnership renewal with the Premier League follows the recent confirmation that Tottenham Hotspur had extended its current deal with the sportswear giant until 2033. The 15-year agreement is one of the longest football club deals in Nike’s history.
