Formula One owner Liberty Media has appointed Yath Gangakumaran as new global head of strategy.

He joins from Sky Sports where he was part of the strategy team since 2014, helping renew Sky Sports’ broadcast deals with Formula One and assessed its approach to engaging and monestising millennial sports fans in light of changing consumer habits.

An Oxford graduate, Yath also worked in the strategy team at Channel 4 where he worked to grow the short-form video and on-demand offering.

“Yath’s appointment to the Formula 1 management team is the latest example of where we are strengthening the commercial arm of the business,” said Bratches.

“His experience and skillset, which combine sports and commercial strategy within the media industry, are going to be invaluable as we aim to expand Formula One’s appeal globally.”

Gangakumaran added: “As a passionate follower of the Championship every year, I am incredibly excited to be joining Formula One after three great years at Sky Sports.

“It has always been an ambition of mine to work for a global sporting brand. I am looking forward to applying my experience in developing strategies that engage young audiences to broaden the appeal of Formula One while delivering commercial success.”
