Entries for The 25th Sport Industry Awards have officially opened.

For a quarter of a century the Sport Industry Awards have celebrated the immense work carried out within the sector.

From agencies delivering world-class events and campaigns, to rightsholders using sport as a platform to drive social change, or brands activating a sponsorship that reverberates around the industry and beyond, and suppliers elevating fan experience on behalf of their clients – all are recognised at the biggest night of the sport industry calendar.

Dylan Pugh, SIG Managing Director, said, “I’m delighted to announce that The 25th Sport Industry Awards have officially opened for entries. With the help of industry experts, the SIG team have been busy over the summer, tweaking existing categories and creating others from scratch to ensure that all corners of our ever-changing industry are celebrated on the night and we look forward to reviewing the exceptional work that the industry has produced.

“With our first event taking place in 2002, this year represents something of an anniversary milestone for the Sport Industry Awards and throughout this campaign we’ll be sharing some of the incredible stories that have emerged from the past 25 years, as well as putting on some special, one-off events that celebrate the industry as a whole.

“As for the event itself, rest assured that the biggest night of the sport industry calendar will be our most memorable yet.”

The anniversary edition of the event – due to take place at Evolution London in Battersea on Thursday 30th April – is planned to be bigger and better than ever, with a record number of awards up for grabs.

Hotly contested categories from previous years have returned, while other Award criteria have been tweaked following an extensive consultation process with industry experts.

To meet the changing output of the sector, the majority of changes affect the content categories.

With a view to recognise the teams and production houses responsible for outstanding event coverage, highlights programmes, shoulder programming and films broadcast across TV and streaming, this year will see the introduction of the Sports Programme of the Year.

The Sports Content of the Year is open to all sports-related video content published across any medium. There is no restriction on duration, but it expected that entries will consist of ‘ad length’ brand films, campaign launches, event wrap videos, case studies and interviews, among other formats.

Meanwhile, any content producerd in a ‘documentary style’ should be entered into the Sports Documentary of the Year. These include standalone films of any length or docuseries with any number of episodes.

The Creative Moment of the Year is a new Judges’ Award category designed to celebrate the ‘wow’ moments in the industry that truly capture the imagination of the public, get the sector on its feet and cause even competitor organisations to begrudgingly tip their hats in appreciation of a job well done. Although a panel of industry judges will review all nominated entries and generate a shortlist, uniquely this award will be judged live by attendees at The 25th Sport Industry Awards and decided on the night.

The 25th Sport Industry Awards will also see the return of the Kick Off Awards, which were introduced last year as a means of shining a light on corners of the industry that the Awards have not championed before.

Within the Kick Off Awards, adjustments have been made to the Education Award, designed to make the category more inclusive of any organisation delivering sports-related initiatives or programmes, and not necessarily traditional education providers.

Content Creator of the Year has been introduced to service an entire ecosystem of prolific social media stars, superfans, presenters, podcasters and influencers who drive fan engagement and discussion.

The AI in Sport Award is another on-trend Award created this year to accommodate an influx of organisations implementing AI solutions into their businesses. Entrants into this category may have brought a new AI model to the market or be using an existing, commercially available AI system applied in an innovative way to any area of operations.

The first deadline of entry into the 25th Sport Industry Awards is Thursday 4th December.

For those that apply after the first deadline, an extension fee will allow submission until Thursday 8th January.

For any individual or organisation thinking about entering The 25th Sport Industry Awards, the SIG team will be hosting a dedicated ‘Meet the Categories’ event at its offices in Holborn on Wednesday 15th October. This is a free-to-attend event and a chance to understand the entry process and award crtiera, pick up some writing tips and tricks, and network with fellow entrants from the sport industry.
