THE GALLAGHER TOUCHLINE ACADEMY
Entered By: The Gallagher Touchline Academy
In 2024, the RFU reported that rugby in UK schools was in crisis. Participation declining, state schools lacking facilities and expertise and the pathway to the professional game dominated by a small number of private schools.
We refused to stand by. As an organisation that prides itself on fair, inclusive opportunities, we believed this mindset had to be reflected on the pitch. So we created the Gallagher Touchline Academy (GTA): a CPD-accredited, free programme that equips teachers with the confidence and skills to deliver rugby.
More teachers teaching rugby means more children playing, creating young fans who grow into lifelong supporters, boosting future engagement and helping safeguard the sport.
We have committed to training 2,000 teachers by 2028. In its first year, the GTA reached 450,000 teachers, generated over 1,000 enquiries and trained 114 teachers.
The GTA will be a success because it focuses on where education starts: with teachers.
