WSL FEMALE HEALTH EDUCATION
Entered By: The Well HQ & Women’s Super League
Women’s football is breaking records in attendance, viewership, investment. To continue leading the way in high-performance female football, the Women’s Super League partnered with The Well HQ to introduce several initiatives to educate staff at all levels on female health considerations.
The programme included 3 core elements: every WSL and WSL2 club appointed a Female Athlete Health Lead, responsible for strategic development and creating a Female Athlete Health Club Strategy. Clubs were required to train four key staff members on the exclusive FootballHER CPD course; and best-practice guidance was created on key topics such as menstrual health, pelvic health and pre- and post-natal players.
Post-programme findings show a clear cultural shift. 75% of players feel comfortable discussing female health issues, and over 80% of staff report improvements in club culture. Additionally, discussions around female health topics are being normalised, treated with the same importance as hydration or training load.
