Meta, the owner of Facebook, has unveiled NFL-themed options in its new range of avatars.
The company has partnered with the North American major league so fans can outfit their avatar to support the Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams ahead of Super Bowl LVI on 13th February at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Those who follow the NFL but do not support either team can add a neutral shirt to their own online character.
Meta’s comprehensive overhaul of avatar options also includes new facial shapes and assistive devices for people with disabilities. It is rolling out the updated 3D Avatars to Facebook and Messenger, and for the first time Instagram Stories and DMs. Users in the US, Canada, Mexico and other markets can show up as their virtual self across apps via stickers, feed posts, Facebook profile pictures and more.
Meta said in a statement, “We’re excited to partner with the NFL to bring NFL football fandom to Avatars. With Super Bowl LVI just around the corner on 13th February, we wanted to give fans a chance to show off and celebrate their favourite teams.
“From now until 28th February, you’ll be able to outfit your avatar to support the Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams — or if you can’t bring yourself to cheer for either team, there’s also a neutral Super Bowl LVI shirt you can choose instead.”
