The Royal Parks Half Marathon, presented by Royal Bank of Canada, will host a new ‘digital event experience’ for its 2021 race.
The event – organised by LimeLight Sports Club – will take place on Sunday 11th April, and will see participants use a new race app not just to log their times, but to experience the sights and sounds of the race day itself through augmented reality and ‘custom audio cues’.
The customised app will provide runners with ‘as much of a race day experience as possible’, according to organisers, using digital integrations and AR to bring the Royal Parks race course to life as they run in their local area.
To recreate the event day experience, race morning will incorporate an online warm-up and messages of support from notable faces before the race officially gets underway at 9am. Organisers will encourage runners to find open space and ‘connect with nature’ while still following relevant government guidance on social distancing and lockdown measures.
Designed to ‘celebrate green spaces’ across the UK, with runners coming together to provide fundraising for charities as well as taking part in the event’s long-running #RunGreen initiative.
Charity runners who take part in the April race and meet or exceed a fundraising target of £175 for their chosen charity will be guaranteed a place in October 2021 or 2022 at the standard ballot fee of £59.
