Throughout the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Sport Industry Group is using our Cutting Edge Sport section to highlight the innovations, initiatives and ingenuity of the sport industry as it aims to help solve the issue and save lives.
Thomas Lyte has repurposed its leather goods factory to make PPE for medical staff during the coronavirus pandemic.
The luxury brand – who provide trophies for the Sport Industry Awards 2020 – is the Queen’s silversmith and makes iconic cups including the FA Cup, the Rugby World Cup trophy, and the Ryder Cup. The organisation also makes leather goods and has put its factory to use to make much-needed equipment for the NHS.
The kit is made in the brand’s signature fuschia colour, and has been donated to care workers around the country – who haven’t been put off by the colour.
“Given these very difficult times, there was a sense of good cheer and humour about it. The reality is functionality is all and the gowns certainly work,” said Kevin Baker, Founder, Thomas Lyte.
“They are bright pink but there was a lovely reaction: it injects a lovely sense of joie de vivre into what are extraordinary times not just in terms of what the NHS is facing, but indeed what governments, countries and countries are facing.”
