The Lionesses march on! The weekend kicked off in style with England defeating a lively Columbia side to book in a semi-final clash against hosts Australia. After that, the Premier League returned, Anthony Joshua knocked out Helenuis, and Farrell saw red. We looked back at the latest sporting action…

England set up a Women’s World Cup semi-final with co-hosts Australia as they came from behind against a dangerous Colombia side.

The European champions, favourites to go all the way in Australia, went all the way to extra time to secure their 2-1 victory, with Arsenal’s Alessia Russo scoring the winner after Lauren Hemp equalised for the Lionesses in the first half.

Ahead of the tournament, the BBC has announced that IMG will produce the broadcaster’s coverage.

Heavyweight Anthony Joshua spectacularly knocked out Robert Helenius with one punch in round seven, after boxing tentatively in the first half of the fight at London’s O2 Arena.

The 33-year-old Briton – who was jeered by fans during the bout – landed nothing of note until a huge right to the jaw ended Helenius’ night.

The win – Joshua’s first stoppage victory in two-and-a-half years – sets up a blockbuster fight with American Deontay Wilder in January.

Back in March, Virgin Media O2 and Dazn agreed a distribution deal which will see a selection of Dazn’s boxing and combat sports available to Virgin TV customers.

Chelsea and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw in their opening Premier League game of the new season.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool in a frantic first-half, before the Blues’ new signing Axel Disasi equalised.

The two sides, that are currently also doing battle in the transfer window over £110m Moises Caicedo, both underlined their need for the Brighton defensive midfielder in an open match.

Last week, Google Pixel announced a new long-term partnership with Liverpool, as well with Premier League rivals Arsenal.

England made amends to last week’s loss against Wales by this time beating their rivals 19-17 in a World Cup warm-up match at Twickenham on Saturday.

However, the win was overshadowed by England captain Owen Farrell’s red card, meaning he could miss their World Cup opener against Argentina.

Back in July, the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) signed a multi-year shirt sponsorship deal with Go.Compare.

Lilia Vu produced a composed display to win the Women’s Open at Walton Heath, her second major title of 2023.

Vu, the Chevron Championship winner in April, clinched victory by six shots from England’s Charley Hull.

We recently caught up with the AIG Women’s Open Championship Director, Zoe Ridway, to find out more about the new look event that underlines another step forward for women’s sport.

Jamie Smith’s maiden fifty in The Hundred helped Birmingham Phoenix beat leaders Oval Invincbles by 41 runs for their first win of the season.

Highly-rated 23-year-old Smith hit an elegant 60 from 33 balls and Moeen Ali a 26-ball 33 in Phoenix’s 160-8.

Chris Woakes then set the tone on his Hundred debut in an impressive bowling performance by the hosts.

The previously unbeaten Invincibles were 27-3 after 32 balls and did not recover before being dismissed for 119.

The Hundred announced a new partnership with Compare the Market in July.
