It was English disappointment across the board in the latest weekend in sport. An excruciating defeat in the rugby followed a devastating loss in the cricket, all before Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from the US Grand Prix. We’ve taken a look back at the big moments…

England fell short of causing a Rugby World Cup upset and reaching a fifth Rugby World Cup final as they were defeated 15-16 by South Africa.

Owen Farrell converted four kicks to send his side into half-time of the semi final with a 12-6 lead.

The Springboks chopped and changed their line-up after the break, but a Farrell drop-goal edged England further clear and to the brink of a seismic shock.

However, an RG Snyman try 10 minutes from time cut the underdogs’ lead to 15-13 before the Boks’ scrum power earned Handre Pollard the match-winning penalty in the 77th minute.

Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey then both scored fine goals to ensure Emery’s men pulled away and secured the win, putting them only two points off the top of the Premier League table.
