The Six Nations is back and Ireland, Scotland and England have come out of the first weekend victorious. Meanwhile, there was mixed fortunes for Arsenal across the Premier League and WSL on a fantastic weekend of sport…

In the Six Nations first weekend, Scotland withheld an incredible comeback from Wales to win 26-27 and hang on for a first victory in Cardiff in 22 years.

Gregor Townsend’s side raced into a 27-0 lead in 43 minutes with two Duhan van der Merwe tries, a Pierre Schoeman score and 12 Finn Russell points.

Wales responded with tries from James Botham, Rio Dyer, Aaron Wainwright and Alex Mann in a stunning second-half performance.

But Scotland held out the final 12 minutes to wrap up the one-point win.

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) recently asked Welsh ministers for three years of ‘breathing space’ on interest payments from an £18m Covid recovery loan.

England dominated the second half to come from behind and launch their Six Nations campaign with a 24-27 victory in Italy.

Alex Mitchell’s try after the interval overturned a narrow deficit before George Ford’s boot edged England clear.

The Azzurri had threatened a first win over England as Alessandro Garbisi and Tommaso Allan scored either side of an Elliot Daly finish for the visitors.

Monty Ioane scored a late consolation and earned a losing bonus point in Italy’s smallest defeat by England.

Victory for the visitors, meanwhile, ended their run of four opening-game defeats in the Six Nations.

Last week, Six Nations Rugby agreed a new partnership with UK-based digital image tech start-up SmartFrame Technologies.

Arsenal closed the gap at the top of the Premier League with a dominant 3-1 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

In a must-win game for the Gunners, Bukayo Saka opened the scoring in the first half before a Gabriel own goal levelled the scores on the stroke of half time.

In the second-half, Gabriel Martinelli restored Arsenal’s lead after a defensive mix up before Leo Trossard sealed the win in the closing stages.

The results means that Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are within two points of each other at the top of the table.

Arsenal FC recently partnered with Dubai-based luxury real estate company Sobha Realty in a deal that sees its London Colney training ground renamed.

England’s series with India is level at 1-1 after a target of 399 to win the second Test proved to be well beyond the tourists in Visakhapatnam.

Looking to complete a chase that would have broken a host of records, England were bowled out for 292 to lose by 106 runs on an anti-climactic fourth day.

Last week, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the creation of a three-tiered domestic competition and a change in ownership structure to help develop women’s cricket.

In the WSL, there was a shock victory for West Ham who beat title challengers Arsenal 2-1.

The Gunners were 1-0 up through Alessia Russo when Leah Williamson, making her first league appearance since 19 April 2023, was taken off at half-time as she eases her way back to full fitness.

But Viviane Asseyi levelled from the penalty spot five minutes after the break and West Ham were ahead before the hour as Hawa Cissoko’s cool first-time finish punished an error from Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger.

Last year, the Football Association (FA) has agreed a licensing partnership with Panini to create the first ever Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) football sticker collection.
