With the Olympic Games just around the corner, Dina Asher-Smith warmed up by securing a gold medal at the European Athletics Championships. Northampton Saints, Carlos Alacraz and Max Verstappen also had great weekends…

Northampton Saints claimed their first Premiership title since 2014 as they held off a fierce fightback from 14-man Bath to edge to a rollercoaster 25-21 victory at Twickenham.

Saints scrum-half Alex Mitchell scored the winning try with seven minutes left after Bath had come from behind to lead despite the dismissal of prop Beno Obano 21 minutes in.

Back in March, Premiership Rugby and TNT Sports extended their longstanding domestic broadcast rights partnership for the UK and Ireland.

Dina Asher-Smith claimed 100m gold at the European Athletics Championships as British team-mates Georgia Bell and Lizzie Bird also achieved medals in Rome.

Asher-Smith took victory in 10.99 seconds, crossing the line ahead of Poland’s Ewa Swoboda (11.03secs) and Italy’s Zaynab Dosso to celebrate her first major international medal since winning European 200m silver in 2022.

Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s French Open title by edging a scrappy five-set final against Alexander Zverev.

Third seed Alcaraz won 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2 on the Roland Garros clay.

The Spaniard was below the level of confidence and consistency which enabled him to win his first two major finals – at the US Open in 2022 and last year’s Wimbledon.

Poland’s Swiatek continued her recent dominance on the Roland Garros clay with a 6-2 6-1 win against first-time major finalist Paolini.

In other tennis news, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) recently announced a revamped calendar for 2025 following a two-year review into tennis’ grass court season.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won a gripping wet-dry Canadian Grand Prix that developed into a five-car battle for the lead over the final 10 laps.

Verstappen expertly managed a restart after a safety-car period with 11 laps to go to bolt into a decisive lead while McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri fought with the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton behind him.

Back in April, Red Bull Racing has agreed a new partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), that includes EA Sports branding on Max Verstappen’s helmet.
