FC Barcelona has extended its partnership with Nike in a deal that is reportedly worth a record total of £120m per season.
The extended agreement will run for the next ten years and is a major change to its current deal which is worth around $37m a year.
Nike’s extended deal with Barcelona surpasses Manchester United’s £75m per season contract, which was the most lucrative kit-sponsorship in the world.
However, according to Barcelona, the details of the contract would only be announced at the club’s next general assembly.
“Through this new agreement with Nike, we are extending a strategic alliance for the club, while also reinforcing our global position,” said Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu.
“We are excited by this new agreement, and are confident that we’ll be able to celebrate continued sporting successes together.”
Nike president Trevor Edwards added: “FC Barcelona is one of football’s greatest clubs, inspiring millions of sports fans across the globe, and we are extremely proud to continue our partnership.
“Our deep relationship with FC Barcelona extends Nike’s leadership position in football and we are excited by the opportunity to further grow the world’s most global sport.”
The announcement of the new deal for the La Liga side follows reports that Premier League side Chelsea is set to sign a £60m-a-year contract with Nike following the club’s early termination of its contract with current kit supplier adidas.
