The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has revealed a further stage in its global expansion with the addition of France’s capital to the annual series.

A first Paris edition of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will take place on Wednesday, 19th September, organiser Square Mile Sport has announced in collaboration with Bloomberg.

Paris becomes the 11th city worldwide – and the second in Europe – to take part in the worldwide corporate race series, which attracted more than 7,700 runners in 2017.

The event will feature more than 50 teams, each comprising ten co-workers, representing the leading business and financial institutions in the French capital.

Teams will compete over a one-mile course located in Nanterre Paris La Défense, the city’s major business district, with the winners taking bragging rights as the ‘fastest firm in Paris’. After the race, a celebratory after-party will include a live DJ set.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay concept is designed to promote team building, a healthy work-life balance and sense of camaraderie amongst colleagues.

The first relay was held in London’s ‘square mile’, the heart of its financial district, in 2007. The event has since expanded globally with annual relays in Dubai, Sydney, New York, Tokyo, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Bloomberg, the global business and financial news leader, has served as headline sponsor of the Square Mile Relay from its creation.

Commenting on the Paris launch, James Hassett, managing director of Square Mile Sport, said: “The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is an immersive team building event that enables the city’s most distinguished institutions to come together for an evening of camaraderie, competition, networking, celebration and charity.

“We aim to create a platform for teams to express their sporting enthusiasm while fostering a sense teamwork with their colleagues, all for a good cause. The event is open to all levels of ability – whether you are an elite or leisure runner – we want everyone to enjoy the event.”

An important aspect of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is its philanthropic dimension. A donation is made from team entry fees to each city’s elected charity partner.

In addition, runners are invited to join Bloomberg employees, friends and family to participate in The Extra Mile: a community-led initiative that aims to create a year-round social impact.
