Everton FC has launched an appeal against the two-point deduction imposed by the Premier League for breaches of its Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Last week, the Toffees were docked points for the second time this season, after exceeding the PSR loss limit of £105m over three years by £16.6m, according to the club’s 2022/23 annual report.

In an official statement acknowledging the appeal, the Premier League said the matter will need to be settled ‘urgently’ ahead of Sunday19th May, the final day of the 2023/24 season.

‘An appeal board has been appointed to hear the case after the club lodged the appeal to the chair of the judicial panel today,’ the statement read.

‘The case will be heard on an expedited basis, in accordance with the league’s standard directions.

‘For clarity and certainty for all clubs and fans, the Premier League will be seeking to have the appeal resolved urgently with the outcome confirmed in advance of Sunday 19th May, the last day of this season.’

Everton previously received a 10-point deduction in November for PSR breaches during the 2021/22 season, when the club surpassed the permitted loss limit by £19.5m. Following an appeal, this was later reduced to six points in February.

Currently placed 16th with 27 points, Everton are just two points removed from the relegation zone, as the club fights for its Premier League survival.
