DIVERSIONARY FOOTBALL POLICE PARTNERSHIP
The Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation has delivered a pioneering, data-led youth diversion programme that tackles crime, builds confidence, and strengthens communities across Sussex. Engaging 1,000 young people through football-based sessions in identified crime hotspots, the initiative combines sport, mentoring, and targeted workshops on issues such as anger, exploitation, and substance use.
Close partnership with Sussex Police, who actively take part in sessions, has broken down barriers, built trust, and ensured the young people most at risk receive timely support. Independent police data evidences remarkable impact, including a 65% reduction in criminal activity, a 91% drop in violent offences, and significant decreases in robbery and drug possession. Participants report higher confidence, improved teamwork, and better decision-making, while the programme has generated £48,720 in social cost savings and a £3:£1 return on investment. The model has strengthened partnerships, enhanced community safety, and positioned the Foundation as a leader in early-intervention youth work.
