Cricket’s greatest rivalry resumed this weekend as the Ashes kicked off at Edgbaston. Elsewhere, there were differing fortunes for the British sporting stars in action, with Katie Boulter winning her first trophy, but Rory McIlroy falling just short. And of course, Max Verstappen won another Grand Prix…


Rory McIlroy’s nine-year wait for a fifth major win goes on after he was beaten by one shot by American Wyndham Clark at the US Open in Los Angeles.

Clark carded a level-par 70 to claim his first major on 10 under and the £2.8m winner’s cheque.

Lasty week, the US Senate confirmed it is investigating the planned commercial merger between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF).


England were hit by a one-two punch from Australia in a devastating 21-minute spell before rain ruined the third day of the first Ashes Test.
