Control of Chelsea Women has been acquired by BlueCo, the holding company set up by the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital consortium that took over Chelsea in 2022.

BlueCo now has ‘significant control’ of the women’s team, taking over from Chelsea FC Holdings LTD, according to a filing on Companies House on 11th July.

The move took place on 28th June, two days in advance of the end of the 2023/24 financial year on 30th June, which also serves as the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline.

Chelsea Women recently celebrated a fifth successive WSL title.

In March, Chelsea reported a significant loss of £90.1m  for 2023/24. The shift in control of the women’s team is set to help the club comply with the Premier League’s PSR regulations, which prohibit teams form making a combined loss of £105m over a three-year period.

The move follows the Blues’ announcement in May that Chelsea Women would become a separate entity to the men’s outfit, as part of a new strategic growth plan that positions the teams alongside each-other.

Chelsea Women has since signed a principal partnership with UK telecommunications firm Three, marking the club’s first deal that covers the WSL champions exclusively.
