Manchester City have become the first Premier League football team to launch a matchday application for wearable Android devices.
The CityMatchday Wear app, showcased for the first time during the Premier League champions’ 1-1 draw with Hull City last weekend, can be downloaded on to an Android watch.
Once downloaded, users can receive notifications relating to matchday events such as team sheet announcements, goal alerts, match incidences and commentary.
As part of the launch, four “Cityzens” also won an Android Watch, making them amongst the first fans to experience the new app.
Diego Gigliani, City’s director of media and fan relationship management, commented: “CityMatchday Wear is another example of how we are constantly exploring and adopting new technology with the ultimate goal of improving the fan experience and strengthening fans’ engagement with the club.”
“We recognise the smart watch market is still in its early stages but its popularity is projected to increase rapidly as new players come into the market. We’re thrilled to get in early and start discovering ways to tap into the devices’ potential.”
