There was drama in Austin as the Formula 1 race for the Championship title heats up. We’ve looked at all the weekend’s highlights…

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the US Grand Prix in Austin after taking the lead on the first lap.

Leclerc was imperious in leading Carlos Sainz to a Ferrari one-two, with Lando Norris finishing third after passing Verstappen around the outside at Turn 12 with four laps to go, only to run off the track on the exit of the corner.

Norris chose not to give the place back, and the stewards handed the McLaren driver a five-second penalty. He had pulled out only a 4.1-second lead once in front, he was dropped back to fourth place, one behind the Red Bull driver, in the results.

Verstappen has therefore extended his drivers’ championship lead to 57 points with five races to go and 146 points still available.

Before the race, McLaren Racing landed a new agreement with T-Mobile that includes branding on the Formula 1 team’s cars and garage headsets for the rest of the 2024 season.

New Zealand retained the America’s Cup by beating Great Britain in the 37th edition of the event.

Ben Ainslie’s Ineos Britannia team were 6-2 behind going into Saturday’s racing and needed to win race nine to stay in the best-of-13 series in Barcelona.

However, despite some pressure from the British boat, Emirates Team New Zealand secured victory by 37 seconds to take an unassailable 7-2 lead.

Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League after Curtis Jones scored the winner in a 2-1 win against Chelsea.

Arne Slot’s side took the lead through a Mohammed Salah penalty before Nicolas Jackson equalised after the break.

Jones quickly restored The Reds’ lead at Anfield meaning Liverpool’s great run of form continues.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Manchester City claimed a legal victory against the Premier League, after challenging the English top-flight’s Associated Party Transactions (APT) rules.

Saracens scored a last-second penalty as they beat Bristol 37-35 to go top of the Premiership.

Alex Lozowski’s three-pointer in the 83rd minute ensured a dramatic victory for Sarries in a thrilling encounter at Ashton Gate.

Wasps, London Irish, and Worcester Warriors recently confirmed that they have applied for places in next season’s expanded RFU Championship.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scored two goal-of-the-season contenders as Chelsea maintained their perfect start to the Women’s Super League season by beating Tottenham 5-2.

With the injured Lauren James watching on from the stands, Kaneryd scored an outrageous jumping volley to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute.

Back in September, the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) and Barclays Women’s Championship unveiled their new The Stakes Have Never Been Higher season launch campaign.

The Jacksonville Jaguars came from behind to ease the pressure on under-fire coach Doug Pederson with a 32-16 win over the New England Patriots in London.

The Jaguars came into the game at Wembley with a 1-5 record after suffering a dismal defeat across town at Tottenham last Sunday.

The NFL recently revealed Samsung Electronics UK as the league’s TV partner in the UK and Ireland for the 2024 season.

Serbia’s Djokovic beat the Rafael Nadal 6-2 7-6 (7-5) in their third-place match at the Six Kings Slam exhibition event in Saudi Arabia.

The match was the pair’s final meeting as professionals after Nadal announced earlier this month that he will retire from tennis at the end of the season.

Elsewhere in tennis, the All England Club (AELTC) has announced that Wimbledon line judges will be replaced by electronic line calling technology from 2025.
