Commonwealth Games England (CGE) has appointed Run Communications to help develop and deliver its communications activity over the next two years, as attention continues to shift towards the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Run Communications, led by managing director Steve Chisholm, has been working alongside the governing body since 2014, helping build the ‘Team England’ brand and support the organisation’s corporate activity.
Chisholm welcomed the new agreement, saying: “Team England is the nation’s sports team, with equal numbers of men and women, disabled and non-disabled athletes, drawn from every locality across the country. Run will continue to work to ensure all communication activity celebrates this unique mix of talent and that Team England athletes are at the heart of the story through to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.”
Paul Blanchard, Commonwealth Games England chief executive, commented: “Run have consistently impressed with their understanding of our brand, their creative ideas and ability to deliver outstanding content to our fans and key stakeholders.
“They will provide invaluable support to Team England as we grow our audiences in the countdown to a home Games in 2022.”
Run has worked in partnership with CGE to help shape its national and regional activity, as well as its social content strategy and corporate narrative over the last four years.
In particular, the agency won the brief to manage CGE’s UK-based communications at the time of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, which included running a press office, online and social content and all homecoming events and media activity.
In the months leading up to the Games, Run strategically planned PR and digital activations around key milestones, which ranged from ‘One Year To Go’ celebrations, to the final team announcements and kitting-out event.
Run claims its influence has contributed to a significant uplift in awareness of CGE’s Team England brand, reflected in social media audience growth of 10% on Twitter, 101% on Facebook and 1,004% on Instagram.
