Construction work is ahead of schedule for the new aquatics centre for London 2012 according to the Olympics Delivery Authority.

Work is complete on the huge southern roof support for the 160-metre longwave-shape roof. The pools have been excavated and three-quarters of the foundations have been completed.

After the London Games the centre will be available to the public with facilities including two 50-metre swimming pools, a diving pool and diving facilities.

The Olympic Delivery Authority said work has surged ahead on the centre since construction started two months earlier than planned this summer.
