The site in East London includes the velodrome, the aquatic centre and the Olympic stadium.??
The decision to name the stadium after the British monarch was decided upon after consultation with investors, developers, local boroughs, and businesses, and received permission from the Queen, the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the International Olympic Committee.??
The new name for the park will come into effect after the Olympics in 2013 when it reopens.??
The Mayor said of the new site: ‘Not since Georgian England has London seen such an ambitious and comprehensive vision for a new district.’??
‘Beautiful spaces, high quality family homes, spectacular facilities, excellent shopping, and unrivalled transport links in Europe’s largest new urban park.’
??The site is also set include hanging gardens at 30ft above the ground, as well as meadows, lawns, shrubs and 4,000 trees.
