London 2012 sponsor EDF Energy put on a special light show at the London Eye to mark its three-year deal with the iconic landmark.
EDF Energy illuminated the tourist attraction dawn to mark its low-carbon vision for the capital.
The company is set to expand its presence during the London 2012 Olympics with an £8m deal to sponsor the structure for the next three years.
When the wheel launched in 1999 the title sponsor was British Airways’ – but the company cancelled the deal back in 2008.
Gareth Wynn, group director of the EDF Energy Olympic and Paralympic programme exclusively told Sport Industry TV: ‘Our partnership with London 2012 and the London Eye is all about trying to inspire people by using the emotional power of the Games to become a bit more sustainable in the way they live their lives.’
‘When people come to London for the Games they will want to see the sights of the capital and I’m sure that the London Eye falls into that, so it represents a great opportunity for us to get our message across.’
Wynn said that EDF Energy will make sure people know that it is no longer the British Airways London Eye: ‘When you go to the reception and get into a pod you cant miss the fact that it is now the EDF Energy London Eye, our branding is very clear and of course there is one orange pod up there as well.’
