London 2012 has submitted the planning application for the Olympic Park – one of
the largest such requests of its kind in European history.
The 15 volume, 10,000 page document covers plans for all elements of the
Olympic Park site, including sporting venues, highways, river works and parks.
It covers 2.5 sq kilometres of land, looking at usage both in 2012 and after
the Games, when the site will be transformed with housing, schools and
facilities for the local community.
The project now moves into the next phase, called ‘Making the Park 3D’:
demolition, dig and design.
Sebastian Coe, chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: ‘This is
one of the biggest and most complex planning applications ever prepared in this
country, and is another key milestone for us on the road to 2012.’
The planning application will now be considered by a committee including
representatives from all London boroughs affected by the plans.
The application is now subject to a statutory 28-day public consultation
period with the Olympic Delivery Authority expecting a final decision by late
summer.
