Under-18’s will now be able to volunteer at the London 2012 Games after a U-turn from Olympic organisers.
A minimum age of 18 had been set by organisers as they looked to recruit 70,000 volunteers including marshals, ticket inspectors and first aiders.
However, the plan was criticised by eager teenagers keen to take part in the Games, forcing Lord Coe to rethink the ban.
London 2012 has now said that it is ‘looking at opportunities for those under 18.’
Originally the only under-18s involved at the Games would be ball boys and girls at the Olympic tennis events at Wimbledon.
The Vancouver Winter Games set up a special scheme for 15 to 19-year-olds whilst the minimum age for volunteers at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester was 16 years.
