Computer manufacturer Acer has signed a sponsorship deal with the International Olympic Committee to join the governing body’s TOP programme replacing rival brand Lenovo which announced the end of its association earlier this week.
Acer will join the IOC’s TOP partners in 2009 with Lenovo maintaining its Olympic association until the end of next year’s Beijing Olympics in accordance with their existing sponsorship contract.
The new agreement with the Olympic Movement, which begins on 1st January 2009, positions Acer as the official worldwide partner in the computing hardware category for the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games.
As the current Worldwide TOP Partner in the ‘computing equipment’ category, Lenovo is the official provider for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008, over 200 National Olympic Committees and their Olympic teams, and the IOC, until 31 December 2008.
Acer joins the likes of Samsung, McDonald’s and Visa as IOC TOP partners.
